AOL buys online marketing network

AOL buys online marketing network Time Warner's AOL has purchased website buy.at in a move to bolster its Internet Advertising revenue.

buy.at is an affiliate provider which offers a service to advertisers who only pay once a purchase is made.

AOL's acquisition, the financial terms of which remain undisclosed, is one of five takeovers for the firm in the past 12 months as internet companies pay huge sums of money to merge with rivals.

AOL chairman and chief executive Randy Falco says the move will help the future plans of the company.

"This acquisition further enhances our … advertising offerings by enabling us to offer a new set of advertiser and publisher products, while also supporting our international strategy," Mr Falco told Fox News.

The buyout comes as Microsoft offered to buy Yahoo for $44 billion (£22 million) in a bid to compete with its biggest rival, Google.

Britain's branch of buy.at operates with 50 employees based in Newcastle and London.
