Advertisers to up search spend to boost Google, Yahoo presence

More than a quarter of large advertisers are looking to increase their search engine marketing spend by over 25 per cent this year.

In news that confirms the seemingly unstoppable rise of SEO, Jupiter Research figures indicate that 26 per cent of those firms with annual revenues in excess of $50 million are planning large increases in online ad spend.

"Because marketers with large companies anticipate including major search engines as part of their branding campaigns, they realize this tactic could result in additional expenses and are planning accordingly," said Jupiter Research's Kevin Heisler.

SEO, or search engine optimisation, is a vital component of search engine Marketing and involves boosting a website's ranking by understanding exactly what it is that makes websites relevant.

Keeping a site fresh with daily news is just one way of ensuring that it builds up a large number of links.

The BBC put it succinctly when it said that "the web is a collection of pages, all linking to each other One of the most important factors in deciding how relevant particular sites are is to count how many other sites link to it".

Web owners and businesses can ensure they achieve an impressive search engine ranking by using link building.
