Amazon beta testing PPC ad program
Online store Amazon.com has taken the wraps off its auction-based pay per click marketing program, Clickriver Ads, according to ClickZ.Using the new service, businesses can place targeted sponsored links on Amazon's web pages next to the search results. The product is being developed by Amazon subsidiary A9 search and is currently in the beta stage.
"We are beta testing an advertising program that allows businesses to buy sponsored links that appear on Amazon.com, next to search results and on product detail pages," a spokesman for the retailer told ClickZ News.
"These ads will feature products and services that complement products sold on Amazon.com. Revenue from sponsored links allows Amazon.com to even further lower product prices for customers."
At first, the areas concentrated on will be travel, finance, education, entertainment, insurance, news healthcare, IT assistance and photo printing. For example, hotels could advertise on the product pages of travel books, sunglasses and other travel-related items.
The adverts will not be exclusive, however – the Seattle-based company will continue to carry sponsored links from other ad networks.
Amazon was one of the first companies to begin selling goods online, starting life as a web-based bookstore.
