Amazon to take ads on UK site
Leading internet retailer Amazon is to begin allowing firms to place online advertisements on the UK version of its website.According to a Media Week report seen by e-consultancy, Amazon is hoping it can profit from the current online advertising boom by opening up its site to third party ads.
Online ad revenue in the UK increased by a huge 47 per cent last year, according to the latest figures from the Advertising Association.
Although Amazon products are advertised on many websites across the internet, the firm has only ever engaged in limited advertising on its UK site, including some ads run by Virgin.net.
The backend of the scheme will be handled by eType.
Amazon was first established in the US by Jeff Bezos in 1994, but did not make an annual profit until 2003. It is now one of the hottest internet properties and the most widely-known online retailer.
