Ask launches search eraser function in challenge to Google and Yahoo

Ask launches search eraser function in challenge to Google and Yahoo Search engine Ask.com has launched a product that allows consumers more privacy control over their searches.

Called AskEraser, it completely deletes all future search requests and associated cookies from Ask.com servers when enabled, including IP address, user ID, session ID, and the whole text of the query.

When activated it is prominently displayed in the corner of the Ask.com home page and search results page, showing that search activity will be erased.

"For people who worry about their online privacy, AskEraser now gives them control of their search information," said Ask chief executive Jim Lanzone. "AskEraser is simple, straightforward, and easy to use. It is an idea whose time has come."

Ask.com currently trails Google, Yahoo and Microsoft in terms of internet searches, but this move will throw down the gauntlet to these rivals, as privacy is a growing concern among web users.

Search engine optimisation helps to boost your website up the rankings of the search engines.
