Britney tops popular search term
Troubled pop princess Britney Spears was the most-searched for name/word in the Yahoo search engine this year.Britney, who has rarely been off the front pages of the tabloids because of her alcohol-fuelled antics was searched for more than wrestling organisation WWE, Paris Hilton, Japanese cartoon Naruto and Beyonce, the Associated Press reports.
The list was compiled by removing company names, technological terms, X-rated content and general topics such as "movies".
Others to make the top ten were online game Rune Scape, Fantasy Football, Fergie, Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Alba.
In terms of news stories, it was Saddam Hussein who was the most searched-for, followed by Iran, Iraq, George W Bush, energy prices, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, San Diego fires, Afghanistan and the shooting at Virginia Tech.
Separately, it emerged that the iPhone was the fastest-rising search term in Google this year.
Apple's swish phone features a video iPod, a smart touchscreen and internet connectivity.
