Free Mobile TV Go-ahead from BBC Trust

The BBC's plans to trail free mobile TV has sparked fears that it could "distort the market and damage the prospects of its commercial rivals" according to The Times.

ITN Chief executive, Mark Wood, sent a letter of complaint to the BBC trust highlighting his concerns.

Since the BBC is funded by the British government, it does not have to generate revenue from TV, internet or mobile advertising. If the BBC goes ahead with its free mobile television plans with Orange, Vodafone and 3, it could severely weaken potential business that hopes to be done by other broadcasters like ITN, who last week agreed a £250,000,000 deal with ITV.

Channel 4's chief executive, Andy Duncan, said that
"People need to wake up and realise that this is not just a cyclical issue," talking about the threats that broadcast television is facing from the internet and Google.

Last month complaints to the European Commission forced the BBC to abandon BBC Jam, its online education service.
