Google AdWords opened up to small business

Even small businesses without websites will now be able to take advantage of Google's AdWords system, as its Starter Edition will be offered to local advertisers with a landing page hosted by Google.

The internet giant will not charge local businesses for the hosted business pages service that features on its AdWords Starter Edition package, as Google seeks to further broaden access to its online advertising system.

Senior product manager Jon Diorio said: "Once you've created your ad, it asks you if you have a page and will create one for you if you don't.

"This is part of our effort to further democratise online advertising. It was available for a long time only to people with a lot of money and resources and our goal is to make it available to everybody that needs it," added Mr Diorio.

Following October tests Google has opened up the local business service, which offers free web pages with a new AdWords account, without any need for HTML knowledge.
