Google PageRank Toolbar Export & Backlink Update in Progress

April 2007 Toolbar PageRank Update in progress:

After 94 days since the pervious Toolbar PageRank (PR) Update, Google seems to be exporting the second update for the year alongside a Google back link update.

Day one of the PR update and the overall mood in the forms are that it’s more like a downscale with many sites dropping -1 point.

If you have risen or stabilised, well done and you may possibly take from this that you are building links in sync with Google’s current PR Algorithm. These days PR is less important than the quality of a sites Inbound Links i.e. the relevancy, ranking, quality and freshness of the page where the link is found, but to say PR isn’t important is miss information, stronger PR pages still carry more weight.

We like to use PR as an indicator that we have been getting quality backlinks for our clients and this is reflected with the Search Engine Ranking Positions (SERPS).

Quotes from Webmaster World Forum:
“For the first time in the past 15 months or so, the toolbar-pageranks of my pages have become consistent again, with the homepage covering the highest pagerank and all other pages -1, -2, -3 ,-4 according to their distance from the homepage in the links graph (which I know is not accurate but the best thumb rule).
The reported drops in PR indicate that the damping factor has been strengthened; this drop seems to affect all sites across the board.
In my opinion, this is the first accurate toolbar PageRank calculation for almost two years.”

One already knows how much your Link Building and SEO has worked, by measuring the increased ranking of some target keywords, but the PageRank Update is a bit like getting an exam result. You may have a gut feeling that you have done pretty well, but now it’s all about the anticipation to find out if you got the grade that you were hoping for.
