Google acquisition to boost maps

Internet search giant Google has announced the acquisition of Endoxon, a Swiss mapping company.

The purchase, for an unconfirmed amount, is intended to boost the quality of the mapping service Google offers for Europe, something already widely used to find businesses and addresses.

By improving the quality of its mapping data it is thought Google will be pushing further integration of its online advertising and map services, allowing better searches for businesses and services.

"We're very excited about the company's innovative mapping technology and the high quality of its engineers," Google spokesperson Megan Quinn told internetnews.com.

"The Endoxon team has demonstrated passion and innovation in online mapping and has developed compelling technology that will enhance our Google geo products worldwide," added the official Google blog.

As a result of the deal it is reported that Endoxon will not sell any of its products to new customers, but will honour all existing contracts.
