Google and Publicis announce internet advertising tie-up

Google and Publicis announce internet advertising tie-up Search engine Google and French advertising firm Publicis are to team up to expand in the online advertising market.

Although exact details have not yet emerged, the firms said they would exchange Google's technical expertise for Publicis' media skills, Reuters reports. They have been collaborating for more than a year.

Publicis chairman Maurice Levy said that his company would be able to "grow the business of our clients through better use of the internet, sending the right message at the right time".

"We are telling the market we are being very serious about digital advertising," he said.

Last year Publicis bought online advertising agency Digitas for $1.3 billion; in 2006 Google paid $3.1 billion for ad exchange provider DoubleClick (although this deal has still not been approved by European regulators).

Meanwhile, Google has moved to allay the fears of advertising companies by stating that it is not intending to start an ad agency itself.

Its Creative Lab is an internal Marketing resource whose "only client is Google", said the company's Andy Berndt.
