Google announces Android mobile phone platform, not Google Phone

Google announces Android mobile phone platform not Google Phone Google has announced details of its new mobile platform, Android - which is "more ambitious than any single 'Google Phone' that the press has been speculating about".

Speculation had been rife about a possible Google Phone, or G-Phone, which would bring the mobile internet to the masses and greatly benefit online advertisers.

But the actual project is in fact a broad alliance of technology and wireless companies which will allow free software to anyone who wants it in an open source model. It will not involve an actual G-Phone bearing the Google brand.

The companies involved, who have collaborated through the Open Handset Alliance, include T-Mobile, Qualcomm, Intel, Samsung, LG and Motorola.

Google hopes that a plethora of open source products could be the key to unlocking the potential of the mobile web. Using the Google browser, people will be able to run content from regular internet pages, with Google online advertising next to it.

"This partnership will help unleash the potential of mobile technology for billions of users around the world," said Google chairman Eric Schmidt.

"A fresh approach to fostering innovation in the mobile industry will help shape a new computing environment that will change the way people access and share information in the future.

"Today's announcement is more ambitious than any single 'Google Phone' that the press has been speculating about over the past few weeks. Our vision is that the powerful platform we're unveiling will power thousands of different phone models."

Website owners can use link building to boost their presence on search engines such as Google.
