Google 'is not starting an ad agency'
Google has maintained that it is not starting up its own ad agency, despite being heavily involved in online advertising and deriving most of its revenues in this way, AdAge.com reports.Speaking at the Argyle Executive CMO Leadership Forum, Google's Andy Berndt said: "If anyone leaves here with just one thing, let it be this: Google is not starting an ad agency."
Marketing figures have expressed concerns that the California-based firm may go into the agency business, but Berndt said the Creative Lab was an "internal creative and Marketing resource at Google to manage the brand and our only client is Google".
He added that the firm aims to bridge the gap between creative people who come up with big advertising ideas and the digital world, which they often neglect.
The forum aims to take creatives' ideas and "make them bigger and more digital".
Separately, Google's online payment service, Checkout, is giving rival service PayPal a run for its money.
