Google set to expand newspaper ads
Google is getting ready to extend its advertising services to UK newspapers, according to recent reports.According to the Times, the search giant's Google Print Ads offering would allow clients to select advertising space on newspaper websites via the search engine.
A kind of extension to AdWords, the service would mean that customers can bid for space on specific pages and days and offer a price for it.
Publishers will then be able to either accept or decline, with Google pocketing a proportion of the advertising revenue.
"It is an interesting development with the prospect of bringing new advertisers into our newspapers," a newspaper source told the Times.
"If advertisers find it to be an effective channel, then there is the prospect to form direct relationships on a more normal basis."
Such a move is likely to prove controversial as Google continues to further its media dominance.
US anti-trust authorities recently approved the search engine firm's merger with Internet Advertising company DoubleClick, with a decision from European regulators expected in the spring.
