Google signs EMI YouTube deal
Music giant EMI has inked a deal with Google-owned video sharing site YouTube to show its music videos online. The British company, whose artists include the likes of David Bowie, Lily Allen and Radiohead, has followed Sony BMG, Warner Music and Universal in allowing its content to be shown on YouTube.
Google has had to contend with copyright infringement accusations since it bought YouTube last year, as the site allows users to upload music videos and other original content.
EMI said it was happy with YouTube's content management system, which will ensure that any videos that infringe copyright will be removed.
"With this deal, all four of the world's major music companies are now official YouTube partners," said the company's chief executive, Chad Hurley.
"EMI is a proven leader in the emerging digital music landscape and one of the world's largest and most respected music companies. We're excited to add EMI Music's stellar roster of artists' content to our site and make it available to our community."
Other EMI artists that internet users can expect to see on YouTube include Coldplay, Gorillaz and Norah Jones.
Google recently announced that it would soon begin running online ads
before some content in order to monetise the site.
