Time Warner has appointed Ron Grant as AOL's chief operating officer and president. In his last position as senior vice president of operations at parent company Time Warner, Grant worked with Time Warner president Jeff Bewkes on strategy and helped to change AOL from a subscription-based business to an advertising model.
He will now be AOL chairman and chief executive Randy Falco's second-in-command. Falco welcomed Grant on board, saying: "With his deep knowledge of the AOL business and internet industry as well as his many relationships across Time Warner, Ron will be critical to our efforts to execute AOL's new strategy."
The new AOL model seems to be working so far. In the third quarter, the company's advertising revenue rose by 46 per cent.
