Internet ad revenues reach £2.2 billion in Q3
Internet ad revenues reach £2.2 billion in Q3Revenues from internet advertising reached a record level of $4.2 billion (£2.2 billion) in the third quarter of 2006, according to figures from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB).
This represented an increase of a third over the $3.1 billion (£1.64 billion) reported for the third quarter last year, demonstrating the staggering growth being experienced in the sector as more and more advertisers choose the online medium.
"The consistent growth of online advertising is a clear indication that marketers continue to embrace the true power of interactive advertising," said the IAB's Sheryl Draizen.
"Marketers are experiencing how this medium enhances their ability to target and engage the audience that matters to their brand and then measure its effectiveness in ways no other medium provides."
The figures clearly show where consumers are spending their media time and the upward trend looks set to continue. Commentators were given an indication of the future potential of online advertising when Google bought video sharing website YouTube for $1.65 billion (£0.87 billion), with a view to capitalising on video ads.
The IAB's "Advertising Revenue Report" was conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers. Data was compiled straight from companies selling advertising space on the internet and the report is therefore considered an accurate reflection of the real state of the industry.
