Internet advertisers to be given transparent AdSense reports by Google

Internet advertisers to be given transparent AdSense reports by Google Search engine Google is to provide detailed reports telling internet advertisers using the AdSense programme exactly where on the web their ads are appearing.

AdSense allows marketers
to place advertisements on the internet, with Google delivering text and image ads to relevant websites. However, until now the company has not told advertisers which web pages their ads are appearing on.

That is set to change now that Google has begun providing advertisers with a 'Placement Performance' report, which lets them identify which sites are performing best for them. They can then choose to exclude certain underperforming sites and have more of an influence over the effectiveness of their ads.

The reports will be rolled out to advertisers worldwide later this year, and will include domain names, URLs, impressions, click throughs and other data.

"Advertisers have had keywords; now they can more easily add sites to their optimisation strategies," explained Google's product management director, Brian Axe.

"We view this as a platform for much more optimisation than advertisers have been able to do before."

A recent report by the Internet Advertising Bureau showed that UK internet users were the most attractive in Europe to advertisers.

In the UK, advertisers spent an average of £56 per user in 2006.
