Internet advertising to outperform radio spend next year

Global spending on internet advertising is set to overtake spending on radio next year, according to new figures.

Media-buying agency ZenithOptimedia believes the total spend worldwide will increase greatly, as the world follows Britain's lead, the Times reports.

Around the world, the amount spent on this medium rose from around £9 billion in 2005 to £12.6 billion last year, and the market is growing particularly fast in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

"The global momentum towards online advertising reflects trends in the British market, which has received a boost from the uptake of high-speed internet access," the Times said.

"Although spending on traditional media, such as magazines and radio, has been falling in the UK, more than £2 billion was spent on internet advertising in 2006."

It is evident that more and more companies are realising the serious benefits of advertising online, as internet-savvy consumers choose to shop over the web to save time and money.

According to Ofcom's Digital Progress Report, more than half the adults in the UK have broadband at home - up from 39 per cent a year ago and totalling 13 million homes around the country.

Companies can easily get involved with internet advertising using link building.
a deal with EchoStar, that will broaden its ad scope.

Google is intent on branching out into other media such as print, too, although the vast majority of its income still comes from search ads.

Recent weeks have also witnessed the big push towards more refined mobile internet marketing. As more mobiles are connected to the web, Yahoo, Google and Microsoft have all launched web systems designed to make browsing easier.

Yahoo's oneSearch will compete directly with Microsoft and Google's offerings, bringing benefits to internet marketers as more consumers shop online.

Direct Link Ads are the perfect way for small businesses and other website owners to market their products.
