Internet marketers benefit from web popularity

Internet marketers benefit from web popularity The internet is the most essential medium used by consumers after TV, according to a new Edison Media Research report seen by eMarketer.

Internet users in the US over the age of 12 find the web far more important than radio or newspapers, with 33 per cent saying the internet is the most essential medium.

This compares to just 17 per cent who cited the radio, and ten per cent who viewed newspapers as their daily bread.

As well as this, more than a third deemed newspapers the least essential medium, showing that consumers are truly shunning traditional print media in favour of newer technologies.

Of course, the results are yet more evidence of the internet boom that has allowed millions of small businesses to use internet marketing to get their products out there and seen by a massive audience.

"It is not a stretch to say that the internet has become just as important as television as an important source of information and entertainment in the lives of Americans," said Edison Media Research's Larry Rosin.

Some 34 per cent of respondents also said they were using the internet more now than they did in 2002, although 24 per cent conceded that they used it less.
