Internet marketing is on the up Down Under
Internet marketing continues to make gains across the English-speaking world.According to the Audit Bureau of Verification Services, the online advertising market in Australia has broken through the A$1 billion (£400 million) per annum barrier.
By the end of this year it is expected to be the number three medium for advertisers after newspapers and television.
Among the most popular sectors was consumer electronics, as more consumers chose to buy Christmas gifts such as iPods and DVD players over the internet.
Overall search and directories grew by 81 per cent to A$399 million, while banner ads grew by 56 per cent to A$303 million.
Steve Allen of Fusion Strategy told the Sydney Morning Herald: "There's no evidence of [the online advertising market] slowing down. There is now sufficient critical mass of eyeballs that mainstream advertisers are now considering this a mainstream medium."
Meanwhile, despite the fact that online advertising in the UK is growing rapidly, a Nielsen/NetRatings study recently showed that firms still had plenty of potential to tap into.
