Microsoft: We trail Google in internet advertising
Microsoft's chief executive, Steve Ballmer, believes that his company is a long way behind Google in terms of search and Internet Advertising, CNET reports. At a Gartner Symposium, Ballmer said that Microsoft was an "aspirant" in the worlds of online advertising and search, even though it is, along with Yahoo, one of the big three.
"In world search and advertising, Google is the leader; we're an aspirant," he said. "We have a lot of work to do in search and advertising."
However, Ballmer said that Microsoft's own internet advertising platform is a viable one, despite being costly to set up.
"Our advertising system works," he said. "When we have something there, we'll show you."
David Smith, an analyst with Gartner, said that Microsoft is "clearly going after the online advertising market, and advertising is Google's core market".
Meanwhile, internet advertising in the UK is set to grow by 85 per cent, according to ZenithOptimedia figures.
