Mobile internet advertising to boom, ask Virgin Mobile
A new report points out that mobile Internet Advertising, if it is rolled out in the correct way, is likely to become popular.Telecoms and IT advisors Analysys created a report, The Mobile Advertising and Marketing Revolution, which warns that mobile advertising needs to be implemented "carefully".
Report author Martin Scott said: "Flooding mobile phones with advertising would destroy consumer confidence and, with it, the potential value of the mobile advertising market.
"If they focus on delivering mobile advertisements that are unobtrusive and relevant to the target audience, operators and advertisers may be able to create a mutually beneficial cycle of revenue and rewards."
He pointed to the example of Virgin Mobile USA, which had launched a successful Sugar Mama advertising campaign.
Mr Scott. also said that it was important for phone operators to look for new ways to generate profit, as voice revenues were only set to grow slowly.
"Obstacles to mobile advertising are now beginning to fall, making it more feasible for operators, handset manufacturers and advertising agencies to exploit the revenue potential of mobile advertising," he concluded.
Various companies are making moves to prepare themselves for mobile internet advertising. Recently manufacturer Nokia said it would acquire Enpocket, a mobile advertising firm, as it looks to expand its own mobile internet advertising business.
