Most job seekers make use of online ads
Online advertisements help more than 70 per cent of job seekers to find employment, according to non-profit organisation The Conference Board.Newspapers are also used by around 70 per cent of those looking for a job, with fewer people turning to networking (50 per cent) and other activities such as using agencies (26 per cent).
"The internet has definitely become an established method of job search," said The Conference Board's director of new initiatives, June Shelp. She noted that job seekers often used online ads in tandem with those in the print media.
Data from the group also revealed that the internet is used by 66 per cent of job seekers to submit CVs and application forms, and by 42 per cent to post CVs on a website.
Respondents to the survey also showed that more people felt their job offer resulted from an internet search than any other means, underlining the importance of internet advertising.
The advancing nature of internet job search has also been illustrated by the launch of a new job referral-based website, WhoToTalkTo.com. It offers personal job referrals and job leads rather than the traditional bulletin board of job ads.
