MySpace Music launched

MySpace Music launched MySpace has unveiled its new music service to offer free streaming and paid downloads to users, as well as a range of Internet Advertising opportunities to businesses.

The website's MySpace Music service allows users to create their own playlists and purchase songs from Amazon's music store, along with merchandise, gig tickets and ringtones from Jamster.

All four of the major labels have signed up to offer their catalogues through the service and a number of independent record companies are still in talks with MySpace.

The service will make money through sales of various products and through banner and branded advertising, a component that MySpace chief operating officer Amit Kapur told Adweek was vital to the success of MySpace Music.

He commented: "In order to really meet the needs of users, you need to unlock the content. The only way you'll solve that is having a free, ad-supported environment."

The MySpace website was recently redesigned to give it a fresher, more modern look and improve features such as search and usability.
