New Local Directory SEO Alliance Create CityGrid

New Local Directory SEO Alliance Create CityGrid Online local search directory Citysearch and search marketing company OrangeSoda have completed a deal which will see the two link up for a strategic alliance in online marketing services.

The new integrated service, called CityGrid Complete will provide local businesses with a place to be listed in a reliable directory to rival the likes of Yelp and Qype, whilst at the same time providing solid online advertising and search engine optimisation (SEO) services.

Having launched CityGrid, the network includes 15 million businesses hosted by Citysearch along with half a million advertisers which can reach out to 140 million unique visitors. Although CityGrid remains largely unchanged from Citysearch, the main boost from the alliance with OrangeSoda is the improvement to SEO to boost search traffic and Google rankings.

As Google works to improve Google Maps further and integrate local search within both Maps and Street View, the push to improve SEO for listed companies on the CityGrid directory comes at a crucial time to enhance local awareness of businesses online.

Executive Vice President of Citysearch Neil Salvage explained to PaidContent: “What CityGrid does is touch all search engines, directories, multiple publishers, and social nets including Facebook and Twitter. We have 500,000 paying advertisers on this network. In terms of attracting publishers, we will pay a publisher if they initiate an ad connection.” In this way CityGrid can become a one-stop shop for online advertising for local businesses, in a mutually beneficial revenue share model for those clients who chose to use the content.

Citysearch Distances Itself from Upcoming Click-Fraud Settlement

Citysearch took a $992 million writedown in December for a required adjustment to revenue projections. The bad publicity around the click fraud allegations and lawsuit kicked the stuffing out of their PPC ad revenue. CityGrid is their attempt to distance themselves from the smell of click fraud and the upcoming settlement in that class action suit.
