Auction site eBay tops August PPC terms

Auction site eBay tops August PPC terms Auction website eBay has topped a list of the most popular paid search terms in the US during August.

Compiled by Hitwise, the data revealed that 0.12 per cent of all paid ad clicks were associated with the term 'ebay', followed by 'ebay.com', 'home depot' and 'map quest'.

In terms of organic search clicks, 'myspace' came out on top with 0.78 per cent of all click-throughs, with 'craigslist' obtaining 0.42 per cent of the total and 'myspace.com' receiving 0.29 per cent.

"The eBay website is capturing over 88 per cent of the online traffic generated by paid listings on the variations of the term 'ebay'," explained Anita Gandhi, director of client intelligence at Hitwise.

"This illustrates a keen understanding of the value of buying brand terms."

Earlier this month, Hitwise released figures showing that the insurance sector accounted for the highest number of paid search clicks in the UK during August, followed by the utilities and shopping/classifieds industries.
