Content Still King for Good SEO

Content Still King for Good SEO Businesses are being encouraged to invest in good quality relevant content in order to improve their Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and boost the profile of their websites online.

There is an overwhelmingly confusing barrage of advice available on the web on how to make your online business soar. Social networking sites such as MySpace and Facebook are advocated by some. Others swear by viral marketing whilst others implore tweeting on the world’s latest digital media fad Twitter.

Writing for USA Today, columnist Steve Strauss recommended one nugget which has been a constant in sound online marketing, invest in good content. The old blogging mantra “Content is King” may be a tired cliché now, but it is doctrine that has been enshrined by the Emperor Google for many years.

Mr Strauss cites the expertise of digital marketing consultant John Jantsch, who said the one thing any business can do to improve SEO and grow online business is to “commit to creating content regularly and putting it online.” Content can come in many forms, whether it be articles, blogs, pictures, newsletters or whatever, but ensuring that content is relevant and high quality will contribute to the success of a website.

Way back in August 2006, Mike Gutner, a member of the Google AdSense Optimization Team summarised the importance of compelling content with a simple equation:

1. A content-rich page = Highly-targeted ads
2. Highly-targeted ads + Interested users = Healthy clickthrough & conversion rates
3. Healthy clickthrough & conversion rates = Success!

Times have moved on and online advertising has got more complicated, but the basic premise is still the same – relevant content is key to success. The reign of good content will continue on the Google throne.
