Nearly nine in ten UK searches made on Google

Nearly nine in ten UK searches made on Google Google accounted for 87 per cent of all online searches made in the United Kingdom last month, according to new figures from Hitwise.

The research company revealed that Google.co.uk and Google.com took the bulk of web searches from British internet users during June - up almost eight per cent compared with the same month last year.

Yahoo! also managed to increase its market share, rising two per cent from April 2008 to take four per cent of all searches last month.

MSN accounted for 3.72 per cent of June searches, while Ask.com took 3.14 per cent of the market.

Meanwhile, Google closed in on a 70 per cent share of the market in the US last month, while Yahoo! saw its share drop from 21.31 per cent in June last year to 19.62 per cent this year.

Earlier this month, Nielsen Online reported that Google search was the fourth most used online application in the UK in the last 12 months.
