Yahoo remove minimum bids for online advertising keywords

Yahoo remove minimum bids for online advertising keywords Yahoo! has announced on its Corporate Blog that they were removing the minimum bid for its paid Keyword Promotion service.

The Blog post said: “Starting today, minimum bids for Sponsored Search keywords will no longer be fixed at $.10.” The scrapping of the minimum price cap will allow Search Engine Marketing agencies to make savings promoting some of their keywords in order to Improve Ranking of customer websites.

Yahoo! said that it expected competitive keywords to remain at much the same price, as Online Advertising companies will continue to bid voraciously on important keywords.

The search engine said that they were hoping to reward quality keywords rather than high value keywords.

The company blog said: “We try to reward quality with higher rankings and lower costs, and now, potentially, with lower minimum bids.” By removing a minimum bid, Yahoo! will also encourage less popular keywords to be developed and improved with quality online adverts and links.

The lower pay per click (PPC) marketing costs should help PPC Management control budget spending in the tough economic climate. Marketing costs online have flat-lined somewhat in the US over the past few months; today’s announcement could be just the shock the market needs to defibrillate it back into steady growth.

Yahoo! has also implemented key parts of Facebook into its search results. The new feature will allow internet users to post messages on a friend’s Facebook wall directly from the Yahoo! search result page.

A Yahoo! webinar will be available to discuss the new changes coming into effect from today.
