YouTube dominates US video market in May
Google's YouTube property was responsible for over a third of all videos watched online by American internet users during May, according to a new report.
Statistics from comScore have shown that Google-owned sites accounted for 34.8 per cent of all online video views - equivalent to 4.2 billion clips - during the month, with over 98 per cent of these taking place on YouTube.
Fox Interactive Media, which owns MySpace, placed second in the rankings with 778.2 million video views, followed by Yahoo! and Microsoft sites.
Other trends uncovered by comScore included the fact that each video viewer watched an average of 85 videos - or 228 minutes of footage - over the course of May. Almost three quarters of the US web audience watched an online video at least once during the month.
In June, meanwhile, comScore released figures suggesting that British web users watched 3.5 billion online videos during March.
