Online advertising has hit the headlines this week with Yahoo! revealing its new online advertising system and research revealing that online advertising is set to soar.

Two separate surveys have claimed that online ad spend is on the up – revealing that current economic conditions are not putting search marketers off splashing out.

Yahoo!'s new system, which is geared up to boost graphical ads, is expected to thrive in the current conditions as a result.

Meanwhile, search engine giant Google remains in the limelight after it was urged by the EU not to store data about users for longer than six months.

But the firm has defended its policy to retain information, saying that it was vital if a good standard of search engine results is to be maintained.

In related news, Google appears to be on the verge of losing out to Microsoft when it comes to online advertising.

A Gartner survey revealed the Bill Gates-run firm is likely to be more successful in its venture into the Online Marketing world.

On a lighter note, social networking site Facebook has launched an official Scrabble application after games maker Mattel complained about its unofficial Scrabulous version.
