This week saw Microsoft unveil a new look for its Live Search homepage in the US.

The homepage now features regularly changed background images containing "hotspots" that can be moused over to reveal more information on that part of the picture via Live Search results.


In other news, Google's YouTube video-sharing site was subjected to another lawsuit pertaining to alleged copyright infringement, this time from Italian firm Mediaset.

Mediaset joins the likes of Viacom and a class action led by the English Premier League in its legal action against YouTube.


Meanwhile, Sina.com has reported that Google is set to launch a new legal MP3 search service in China, pitting it in direct competition against popular Chinese search engine Baidu.com, Xinhua reports.

Sources were reported as suggesting that Google has been negotiating with record labels over property rights and that the new search facility will see Google's partners engage in a profit-sharing initiative.
