This week has seen significant developments in online search and internet advertising.

On 30 June The New York Times reported that Google is to test the viability of distributing online TV via its AdSense program.

The search engine is teaming up with Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy, to deliver his new animated series online.

Meanwhile, Vodafone announced that it is expanding its social media strategy by launching a new platform on MySpace to promote its series of live music events across Europe.

Adobe revealed details of a new partnership with Google and Yahoo! to improve search indexing for Flash web content, while Yahoo! announced plans to capitalise on the summer Olympic Games with a raft of online, mobile, and search initiatives.

Elsewhere, Microsoft finally confirmed rumours of its acquisition of Powerset, a semantic search engine, with the VentureBeat blog reporting speculation that the transaction was worth more than $100 million.
