The weekend saw Yahoo! issue a statement announcing that it had turned down a second takeover bid from Microsoft.

This time, the proposal involved a partnership between Microsoft and Yahoo! investor Carl Icahn that would have resulted in the acquisition of Yahoo!'s search business by Microsoft, while Mr Icahn would have taken control of the rest of the company.

Meanwhile, the latest Bellwether Report from the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising suggested that while the overall outlook for the Marketing sector looks gloomy, Internet Advertising is the one area in which growth could be seen in the future.

Last week's iPhone 3G report brought with it statistics on how people search for online information on the device, while a separate report revealed that YouTube was the video website of choice for Americans in May.

Google recently quelled concerns over privacy by revealing that it is to make the YouTube user data it has been ordered to give to Viacom as part of the latter's lawsuit against the video-sharing site anonymous.

Elsewhere, another research study has suggested that Google is close to securing nine in ten of all online searches made in the UK.
