It emerged this week that Microsoft was considering making a search advertising deal with Yahoo! that stopped short of the full acquisition it was originally holding out for.The news would not have been welcomed by Carl Icahn, the activist investor mounting a proxy challenge to Yahoo!'s board, reported Reuters.
Yahoo! shareholders, who claim the company betrayed their duty to investors in walking away from the Microsoft deal, are calling for the release of papers relating to the talks in court.
Meanwhile, Google's co-founder Sergey Brin suggested at the company's UK conference this week that it would be willing to consider a search advertising deal with Yahoo!, The Guardian reported.
Apple, meanwhile, is in talks with record labels over providing more ringtones to iPhone customers.
