A comScore study sponsored by Yahoo! and MediaVest came to the conclusion that packaged goods firms need to invest in paid search or risk losing out when it comes to enhancing brand awareness.

The research, reported by Advertising Age, suggested that consumers view top-placed firms in paid search more positively than those further down.


New figures suggested that Yahoo!'s Olympics site is outperforming NBC's own, while a major new internet initiative has been announced by Yahoo! and Intel.

Dubbed the Widget Channel, the new platform allows web applications to be used on Intel-enabled televisions and other devices.


Meanwhile, new comScore figures have further highlighted Google's dominance in the US search market, showing that the search giant accounted for 61.9 per cent of all online queries in July.


In other news, Microsoft has launched a new tool that allows digital photos to be transformed into 3D, 360-degree experiences.
