It has been a good week for Google, which was named the world's most influential brand ahead of rivals Microsoft and Apple, in a poll by Millward Brown Optimor.

It was the third year in a row that Google had topped the BrandZ Top 100 chart, which estimated the company's brand value at £43.5 billion.

Google dominates the Internet Advertising scene, and its latest move is to offer graphical ads on mobiles, according to CNET.

The ads are placed depending on which keywords appear on the websites that people visit using their mobiles, with Google founder Sergey Brin saying they "work very well".

Meanwhile, there has been more wrangling between Microsoft and Yahoo!, as the former continues its takeover pursuit of the latter.

Microsoft chief financial officer Chris Liddell said that "speed is of the essence" in its proposed £22.6 billion bid, and warned that the software giant would "explore alternatives" unless progress with the Yahoo! board was made soon.

Meanwhile, Yahoo! reported large profits in the first quarter of 2008, which makes it less likely that Microsoft could lower its offer.

In another development, Yahoo! is planning to improve the social features of its website.
