Online advertising growth continues to dominate
The rate of investment in online advertising is set to slow in the US over the coming year, according to new research, but its growth continues to outpace traditional media.Internet format advertising will continue to attract significant investment, according to the eMarketer study, even though the annual rate of online ad spending will see a decline in 2007, falling to 19 per cent from 30 per cent.
Online video is expected to display the fastest rate of growth, soaring 89 per cent over the year, while $8.3 billion will be spent on paid search ads in 2007 - up $1.3 billion on the previous year.
The eMarketer report also forecast a rise in online advertising investment in 2008 of 22 per cent to $24 billion and a further boom in spending by 2011 to bring total online ad spend to $36.5 billion.
A previous report from the e-business research firm indicated that online video is an as yet relatively untapped area of advertising spending, set for $775 million investment this year.
