Online holiday spending increases in the States
Online measurement firm comScore has found that online holiday spending in the US up to December 27th was close to $28 billion.
This staggering figure was 19 per cent more than the corresponding period a year before, with November 22nd, November 23rd and December 10th showing particularly sharp gains.
The figures clearly illustrate the growing willingness for shoppers to choose the web rather than the high street for their festive shopping. Also, shoppers continued to make a lot of purchases after Christmas.
"Even as the holiday shopping season winds down after Christmas, we continue to see some relatively strong online spending days," said Gian Fulgoni, comScore's chairman.
"For example, the day after Christmas saw online sales of $545 million, more than double the sales on the same day last year. This would appear to indicate that consumers were willing, and able, to take advantage of the attractive late-season promotions and price discounts offered by retailers this year."
Separately, an increasing number of people are using their spare time for entertainment - meaning more eyeballs for internet marketers to attract.
