UK Online spend boom overtakes national newspapers
As of last year UK online ad spend has passed the £2billion milestone. Internet advertising accounts for 11.4 per cent of total advertising revenue in the UK almost double the global average of 5.8 per cent and even more than the US that only spent 7.8 per cent share of advertising online (Internet Advertising Bureau).In doing so online has overtaken newspaper advertising with a growth of 41.25% compared to a growth of only 0.2% for newspaper advertising.
In terms of market share Newspaper advertising enjoyed 10.9% with the internet at 11.4%, up from 7.8% in the previous year.
Although online ad spend is still only half of the amount spent on TV, there are some staggering trends. While online advertising is growing exponentially, television ad spend dropped by 4.7% to 3.9 billion compared to last year.
Google announced today that they are trailing Google TV adverts. Google will be testing their new TV ad system with EchoStar and Astound cable to broadcast ads to viewers.

Google commented: “Working closely with our partners, EchoStar and Astound Cable, we are currently running a trial to deliver better ads to viewers and help advertisers, operators and programmers more efficiently buy, schedule, deliver and measure ads on television”.
