UK e-commerce claimed best in world

UK e-commerce claimed best in world E-commerce in the UK beats that in any other country in the world, according to one expert.

The value of British e-commerce rose by 54 per cent to reach £47 billion in 2007, Douglas McCabe, media analyst for Enders Analysis, told the UK Association of Online Publishers board.

He went on to note that spending on e-commerce comes to about £1,500 per Briton, higher than the equivalent figure for the US. Meanwhile, online marketing spending has overtaken that on TV Marketing, he added.

Mr McCabe also said that digital media owners are waking up to the opportunities posed by e-commerce, with many seeing the sector as an "increasingly important driver".

E-commerce in the US is also on the up, however. According to comScore, spending on internet retail increased by 15 per cent last month, allaying fears over a slump in e-commerce during March, when recorded growth was nine per cent.
