Wiis and iPods in demand as shoppers hit the net

Wiis and iPods in demand as shoppers hit the net Shoppers flocked to the internet yesterday, and spent a mammoth £767,500 collectively in a single minute at 1.09pm, e-consultancy reports.

This broke previous online retail records, and over the course of the day a total of £370 million was spent, according to figures from payment processor Retail Solutions.

The figures add to those from comScore which show that the number of visitors to online retail websites in October was five per cent more than the same month last year.

All this means that an increasing number of businesses in the UK have begun using online advertising to attract a larger share of this huge audience.

The Retail Solutions figures show that the Nintendo Wii games console, and games to go with it, were the items most in demand on the web, followed by the iPod Shuffle and iPod Nano.

Now it is thought that online spending for 2007 will amount to more than £50 billion.
