Worldwide YouTube sites will expand internet advertising scope

Worldwide YouTube sites will expand internet advertising scope YouTube has launched a series of international sites as it looks to curb competition from rivals.

The video sharing site, which has plans to introduce online advertising and share the revenue with users, has rolled out local versions in Brazil, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and the UK.

Google-owned YouTube hopes that these sites will stifle competition from the likes of Dailymotion in France and MyVideo in Germany, which have been offering their customers viable alternatives to the US site.

There will also be no filtering out of content between countries, meaning that any YouTube user will be able to view any content that is uploaded.

"Video is universal and allows people around the world to communicate and exchange ideas," YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley told the BBC.

"Our mission is to entertain, inform and empower the world through video."

He also said the company was working to create a platform for advertisers, and had more than 1,000 global partners.

"We respect copyright and we want to create new revenue streams to create opportunities," he said. "We have been working with rights holders to help them leverage new audiences."

Improve your website rankings with online advertising.
