Yahoo mobile display ads go global

Search giant Yahoo has gone global with its mobile display advertising system and has signed deals with several advertisers to target mobile web users.

Coming soon after the company refined its regular web search ad system to allow advertisers to target consumers more effectively, the mobile ad rollout has been extended to 18 countries around the world.

"This worldwide launch demonstrates Yahoo's continued focus on extending our leadership in display advertising and intention to be number one in mobile monetisation," the company said in a press release.

Advertising partners include familiar brands such as Nissan, Pepsi, Intel, Procter & Gamble and Singapore Airlines, who will launch the first campaigns on the new platform.

They will run near the top of the Yahoo mobile web homepage and will direct consumers to corporate websites when they click on them.

Yahoo's senior vice president, Steve Bloom, commented: "Yahoo's clear leadership in internet display advertising combined with the global reach and popularity of our mobile services makes it natural that top advertisers are coming to us to go mobile."

However, it is not just blue chip firms that are taking advantage of advertising over the internet. Smaller companies and even individuals with popular blogs can benefit from this cheap and effective form of revenue-boosting.
